Middlewich First "Fiddles While Rome Burns"
Middlewich Labour councillors have accused Middlewich First councillors of “Fiddling while Rome burns” by voting through a motion to rebrand the town.
The vote at the full town council meeting on the 18th September included a controversial redesign of the town’s logo.
Cllr Mike Hunter
“There is no way I can support a rebranding project when there are so many other priorities. Talk about fiddling while Rome burns. Residents want to see their councillors discussing urgent issues such as air quality, congestion and local policing. Rebranding the town will cost thousands and will not attract investment into the town – nothing will do that while it takes 40 minutes to drive in or out.”
Cllr Jonathan Parry
“All those who voted for this should be thoroughly ashamed. The subject first came before us six months ago, and it was quite rightly thrown out. Now it is back again. You have to wonder what the Walmsleys have got against the old town logo. This decision is a disgrace because we hardly ever see our fair share of tax payers’ money, and what we do get should be much better spent.”
